The space at 2221 Carpenter is owned and operated by Carrie Morris Arts Production, a 501c3 organization dedicated to providing a forum for contemporary puppetry, multimedia performance and artistic exploration in Detroit. Spearheaded by artist Carrie Morris and currently programmed with a variety of collaborators and partner organizations, the space was purchased in 2012 from the City of Detroit after being empty for several years. With support from the Knight Foundation as The Living Room Series project and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affair’s Capital Improvement program, over three years this once empty house was renovated into an intimate puppetry and performance venue. Open to the public in May of 2015 a part of the Porous Borders Festival, CMAP Detroit continues to host the creative performance and puppet works of artists both local and beyond.
